Gilbert Colvin Primary School
PSHE/RSHE
Intent
Gilbert Colvin Primary School holds children at its heart, and its cohesive vision helps children understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world. With a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, our PSHE curriculum properly equips teachers to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole-school approach. Our lessons also include mindfulness, allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration, focus and self-regulation.
Implementation
At Gilbert Colvin, we follow the Jigsaw PSHE scheme of work, from Reception to Year 6. Jigsaw offers a comprehensive programme for Primary PSHE in a spiral, progressive and fully planned scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.
RSHE
For RSHE (relationship, sex and health education), we teach the 'Teaching RSE with Confidence' programme, which ensures a progressive and coherent curriculum that is age-appropriate. Our RSHE lead works with year group teams to choose educational resources and materials that are in line with our legal duty in relation to impartiality.
Impact
During lessons, children are offered verbal feedback to support their learning of lesson objectives. Outcomes are recorded in a variety of ways and, where appropriate, written feedback may be provided to children to allow them to reflect on learning and apply it in further contexts within the wider curriculum.
The impact of the PSHE curriculum is established through assessment identified in key learning. This is evidenced through subject specific monitoring, learning walks and pupil voice.
