Class 5D

Year 5 Poetry

Year 5 explored and analysed a nonsense poem ‘The Jabberwocky’ by Lewis Carroll.  To aid understanding of the narrative of this poem, the children used a glossary to translate the poem into Standard English.  A mix of the original and Standard English version is what can be seen in the first video.

In the second video, the children used the author’s technique of mixing different words together to make a new word.  Once they had collected a bank of their own portmanteau words, they used the structure of the poem to write their own version.
