Class 5S
Show and Tell
Children in 5S did their ‘Show and Tell’ for a speaking and listening activity for this term.
All children made an effort to be really creative. They shared their interests with the rest of the class. They were able to show what they had made and tell us all about it. Children spoke clearly and were able to answer questions about it.
Particularly impressive were the practical activities such as cooking, baking and sports such as badminton, cricket and football. We had children showing us their musical abilities as well as their drawing skills.
Year 5 Poetry
Year 5 explored and analysed a nonsense poem ‘The Jabberwocky’ by Lewis Carroll. To aid understanding of the narrative of this poem, the children used a glossary to translate the poem into Standard English. A mix of the original and Standard English version is what can be seen in the first video.
In the second video, the children used the author’s technique of mixing different words together to make a new word. Once they had collected a bank of their own portmanteau words, they used the structure of the poem to write their own version.
