Dear Parents and Carers,

As your child has now started Year 6, I know that you will be well into considering which secondary schools you wish to apply to for your child to attend in September 2020. Please ensure that you have submitted your online application to Redbridge (or to the Local Authority you pay your Council Tax to if you do not live in Redbridge) by Thursday 31st October 2019. You can find all the information you need to support you with applying at:  https://www.redbridge.gov.uk/schools/secondary-school-admissions/ and on our school website at:  https://www.gilbertcolvin.co.uk/redbridge/primary/gilbertcolvin/site/pages/parents/second  aryschooladmissions .

Do please take the opportunityeveningsto tovisithelpyou a nu and your child in making the best choices.

I am aware that a number of you may also choose to apply to schools in the independent sector and therefore you may be asked for a reference from Gilbert Colvin Primary School. If this is the case, please let us know as soon as possible as these do take some time to produce. Please note that such educational references are confidential and are only shared with the requesting secondary independent school. A charge of £25 per reference per child will be made.

A number of you will also be entering your child for the 11+ entrance exams which are due to take place later this month; we cannot condone any absence from school for test preparation. With this in mind, please note that any absence from school during the weeks leading up to the 11+ examinations for a year 6 child, will be treated as unauthorised unless we have medical evidence. Medical evidence can be in the form of a doctor’s appointmentide cardforyouwhenwhichyouarrive ifsurgeri you ask for one.

All signed 11+ forms will be returned to the children on the afternoon before their exam (either Friday 13th September or Friday 20th September). If there has been an absence due to illness, we may contact the local authority to inform them that your child may not be well enough to sit the test, in line with the guidance that parents are given.

If you have any questions regarding the secondary admission process, do please come and speak with me.

Yours sincerely

R. Mark Hemsley
