Our school is governed by a dedicated group of individuals who work to ensure the best outcomes for all pupils. The Governing Body plans a crucial role in overseeing the school’s strategic directions, ensuring accountability, and supporting the school’s leadership team. Governors provide a range of expertise and work closely with the staff to maintain high standards of education and well-being for all pupils.
Welcome from our Chair of Governors
On behalf of the Governing Body, I am pleased to welcome you to Gilbert Colvin’s website. As a committed team, we prioritise creating a nurturing and high-performing environment where pupils thrive. Our school community flourishes through dedication to students' growth, and we are immensely proud of their achievements.
Governors play a vital role in shaping the strategic leadership of the school. While they are responsible for high-level decisions, they are not involved in daily operations. At Gilbert Colvin, the Governing Body ensures strategic leadership and accountability, focusing on three core functions:
Defining the school’s vision, ethos, and strategic direction.
Holding the headteacher accountable for educational performance and staff management.
Overseeing the school’s financial performance to ensure effective use of resources.
Our Governing Body consists of parent governors, elected by parents of pupils; a staff governor, chosen by school staff to represent both teaching and non-teaching teams; the Head Teacher; and co-opted governors, appointed from the wider community to bring specific expertise and skills. This diverse group ensures a well-rounded and effective leadership team.
The Governing Body meets regularly throughout the year. It has two committees - the Finance and Resources Committee, which is responsible for managing the school budget and the upkeep of the school’s premises and the Curriculum and Standards Committee, which ensures the schools oversees all issues relating to teaching and the curriculum.
Please feel free to approach the governing body with any questions, feedback, or suggestions - we are here to support and work collaboratively with our school community.

Governing Body Committees
Boards use committees to streamline their workload, delegating specific tasks to smaller groups of governors for focused scrutiny.
However, the governing body as a whole is still responsible for all of its duties, whether delegated or not. Committees play a crucial role in keeping the full board informed about their assigned areas of responsibility.
